City Power given green light for M1 repairs

JOHANNESBURG – City Power says it has been given the green light to carry out repairs to the M1 bridge following a fire on an underground cable along the M1 North this week.

Cable theft and vandalism have been identified as the main causes of the fire.

The Johannesburg Roads Agency has assessed the extent of the damage and determined it is safe for workers.

City Power, however, says work to restore full power cannot begin until those repairs are completed.

The utility has so far managed to restore supply to Metro Centre, Liberty Life, Braampark, Wits University and other office buildings in the Braamfontein area.

Parts of the CBD, Newtown, Parktown and surrounding areas will receive updates as maintenance work continues.
