Manchester City star Phil Foden spoke about his desire to become “one of the best players in the Premier League this season” in an interview with Mail Sport ahead of being crowned FWA Footballer of the Year this week.

The England international has been one of the most striking and prolific players in the Premier League this season after scoring 16 goals for Pep Guardiola’s men and also providing seven assists.

His vital goals and brilliant displays have been instrumental in helping City challenge for their fourth consecutive Premier League title as they battle Arsenal and Liverpool for the crown, and have been rewarded with one of the most prestigious honors for a player in English football.

He defeated the threat of Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice, who came second in the voting, while his Manchester City team-mate Rodri finished third.

Foden gave an exclusive interview to Mail Sport’s Ian Ladyman last month in which he gave an insight into City’s winning mentality, his work under Guardiola and his career so far.

During that same talk, he spoke about his ambitions and desire to win individual awards and said it was an honor to be considered alongside other legends of the game to win awards such as PFA and FWA.

The 23-year-old said he was confident he had the ability to compete for personal honors and said he had set his sights on being one of the best in the division this season.

“I think I said in an interview at the start of the season: ‘I’m not going to lie, I want to be one of the best players in the Premier League this year. I think I have the ability to do it.” “This season I have done well with goals and assists, scoring important goals, so I hope I can be on par with the best players in the league.”

Foden admitted it was an honor to be considered alongside some of the Premier League’s top stars of the past and present.

After being reminded that he could be among the most revered players in Premier League history if he won such awards, he remained humble.

‘It’s nice to be there with them and find the debate really enjoyable. There have been some exceptional players, so it will be difficult. There are still six games left to play and I hope I can maintain that form.

England international Foden will be hoping to end his excellent campaign with two domestic trophies, with City in control of the Premier League title race against Arsenal and favorites over rivals Manchester United in the FA Cup final at the end of the month. .
