ASUS ZenFone 11 Ultra vs HONOR Magic6 Pro

Both ASUS and HONOR announced quite attractive flagship smartphones this year. However, those two phones are quite different, so comparing them should be a pleasure. This time we will compare the ASUS ZenFone 11 Ultra with the HONOR Magic6 Pro. Both are big, powerful and available in several markets. However, keep in mind that the ASUS ZenFone 11 Ultra is considerably more affordable. They are aimed at different types of consumers even though they are both flagship phones.

The ZenFone 11 Ultra is basically a rebranded ROG Phone 8, with some slight design tweaks. Its price is well below $1,000. The HONOR Magic6 Pro is a camera-focused phone and costs well above the $1,000 level. As usual, we will first list its specifications, after which the two phones will be compared in several categories. Let’s do it.

ASUS ZenFone 11 Ultra vs HONOR Magic6 Pro: Design

You’ll immediately notice obvious design differences when you lay your eyes on these two devices. The ASUS ZenFone 11 Ultra has a flat display, with a centered camera hole and slim bezels. The HONOR Magic6 Pro features a curved panel, with a pill-shaped cutout and slim bezels around the display. The sides of the ZenFone 11 Ultra are mostly flat, while the same cannot be said for the HONOR Magic6 Pro.

Both phones include their physical buttons on the right side. They are even placed in a similar position. If we turn them around, you will see even more differences. The ZenFone 11 Ultra has a camera hole in the display in the top left corner. The HONOR Magic6 Pro has a large camera island centered on the top of the back. Both camera islands include three cameras, although the Magic6 Pro has larger sensors.

Both smartphones are made of metal (aluminum) and glass, although the Magic6 Pro also comes in a variant with a silicone polymer (eco-leather) back. The two devices are almost the same in terms of height and width. Well, the ZenFone 11 Ultra is about 1mm taller and about 1mm wider. However, they are exactly the same in terms of thickness. The weight is also quite similar, while both phones come with an IP68 certification for water and dust resistance.

However, these two phones offer a completely different in-hand feel. The glass models of both phones are very slippery. The silicon polymer HONOR Magic6 Pro variant adds a bit of grip to the table.

ASUS ZenFone 11 Ultra vs HONOR Magic6 Pro: Display

The ASUS flagship features a 6.78-inch fullHD+ (2400 x 1080) LTPO AMOLED display. That panel is flat and offers a refresh rate of up to 144Hz. Keep in mind that you will be able to take advantage of this only in some games. It will go up to 120Hz most of the time. The screen supports HDR10 content and its brightness goes up to 2500 nits. The aspect ratio of the screen is 20:9, while the screen-to-body ratio is around 88%. Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protects this panel.

On the other hand, the HONOR Magic6 Pro includes a 6.8-inch 2800 x 1280 LTPO OLED display. That screen is curved and can project up to a billion colors. Its refresh rate is adaptive and reaches up to 120Hz. Dolby Vision is supported here, as is HDR content. The screen brightness goes up to 5000 nits. The aspect ratio of the display is 19.5:9, while the screen-to-body ratio is around 91%.

Both panels are excellent, but the HONOR Magic6 Pro has an advantage. Not only does it get brighter, but it features a sharper panel. On top of that, it has considerably higher PWM dimming, so it protects your eyes better. However, both panels are vivid and have excellent viewing angles. Blacks are also quite deep on both and tactile response is excellent on both ends.

ASUS ZenFone 11 Ultra vs HONOR Magic6 Pro: Performance

These two phones use exactly the same processor. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is the chip in question. It is Qualcomm’s most powerful mobile processor at the moment and one of the best in the sector. Both phones also use LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 flash storage. In reality, both phones offer up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM, so they are well equipped when it comes to performance-related hardware.

You’ll be happy to know that both phones work very well, although their software versions are considerably different. They both run Android 14, but their Android skins differ. ASUS is close to stock Android but with many useful features in addition. MagicOS is something completely different, it combines functions of Android and iOS. However, both perform everyday tasks quickly. They are excellent for browsing, processing images, they open applications very quickly, multitasking is not a problem, etc.

In fact, the same can be said for games. Even the most demanding games from the Google Play Store run well on these two smartphones. Genshin Impact wasn’t an issue for either device, which is always good to hear. Both phones got quite warm after an hour of gaming, but performance was not affected.

ASUS ZenFone 11 Ultra vs HONOR Magic6 Pro: Battery

ASUS placed a 5,500 mAh battery inside the HONOR Magic6 Pro. HONOR, on the other hand, managed to fit a 5,600 mAh unit inside the Magic6 Pro and, by the way, it is a silicon-carbon battery. Both smartphones do a good job in terms of battery life, but we’ve seen slightly better results on the HONOR Magic6 Pro. Both smartphones can cross that 7-hour screen-on mark without any issues, as long as you don’t go overboard with games and similar graphics-intensive tasks.

In fact, we managed to hit that 8-hour screen-on time mark on the Magic6 Pro, while the ZenFone 11 Ultra always flew below that point. However, we’ve enjoyed excellent battery life on both phones, so there’s not much to complain about here. However, please note that your mileage may vary. We have used both devices mainly with Wi-Fi and the signal was good at all times, practically. So, in a way, those were ideal conditions.

In terms of charging, the HONOR Magic6 Pro is faster. Supports 80W wired, 66W wireless, reverse wireless and reverse wired charging. The ASUS ZenFone 11 Ultra offers 65W wired, 15W wireless, and 10W reverse wired charging. The thing is, neither of these two smartphones offer a charger in the retail box. You will need to get one on the side. It’s unfortunate, but there you have it.

ASUS ZenFone 11 Ultra vs HONOR Magic6 Pro: Cameras

Both smartphones have three cameras on the back. The ASUS ZenFone 11 Ultra includes a 50-megapixel main camera, along with a 13-megapixel ultrawide unit (120-degree foV) and a 32-megapixel telephoto camera (3x optical zoom). The HONOR Magic6 Pro, on the other hand, has a 50-megapixel main camera (variable aperture), a 50-megapixel ultrawide unit (122-degree foV), and a 180-megapixel periscopic telephoto camera (2.5x optical zoom) .

HONOR Magic6 Pro

Both smartphones are well-equipped in the camera department, but the HONOR Magic6 Pro stands out on its own. It has more powerful sensors, that’s for sure, and more advanced camera technology overall. The images offered by these two phones are quite different, and while the ZenFone 11 Ultra did a good job overall, we preferred the HONOR Magic6 Pro’s shots most of the time.

The device leans towards warmer tones and balances the images very well. It also works very well in demanding HDR situations, not to mention low light. Portraits and macro photos are especially impressive, at least they were for us. The ZenFone 11 Ultra does a good job, but we’ve noticed that excess sharpness gets in the way. Images seemed to be over-processed too often. That made some of them seem quite strange. The ZenFone 11 Ultra also doesn’t have a periscope telephoto camera, so you’re a bit limited in terms of zoom options.

Audio

You will find a set of stereo speakers on both smartphones. Both are good, but the ones on the HONOR Magic6 Pro are louder. The difference is not important, but it is noticeable. However, both sets of speakers are well balanced.

Of these two phones, only the ZenFone 11 Ultra has an audio jack. However, you can always use the Type-C port of the HONOR Magic6 Pro for the same purpose. When it comes to Bluetooth (for wireless connectivity), the ZenFone 11 Ultra is equipped with Bluetooth 5.4, while the HONOR Magic6 Pro comes with Bluetooth 5.3.
