Finidi rejects the options proposed by the NFF as assistant coach of the Super Eagles

Newly appointed head coach of the Nigeria senior team, Finidi George, will be on a collision course with the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) for the first time since his appointment. OwngoalNigeria.com reports.

Finidi was told he is free to choose his assistants, but the NFF put forward a few names for him to consider, including Emmanuel Amuneke, Daniel Amokachi, Michael Nsien and Usman Abdallah.

We have gathered that Finidi does not want any of the top three names proposed by the NFF, but will seriously consider working with Nsien, who is the current coach of the United States of America (USA) under-21 team.

Choosing his assistant will be high on the agenda when he meets with the NFF hierarchy next week to formally resume as coach ahead of the start of 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

We find out that the terms and conditions of his contract will also be scrapped and sources hinted that it will be a one-year contract with the option of another year, depending on the team’s performance in the world cup qualifiers and the upcoming AFCON.

A semi-final berth at the next AFCON will automatically trigger a two-year extension, covering the period of the world cup and the next African Cup of Nations.
