Uganda's Youth Startup Academy graduates 40 startupsDuring the SWARM Uganda Summit on April 25-26, 2024 in Kampala, Hive Colab, a technology incubator, celebrated the graduation of 40 startups from the Youth Startup Academy Uganda (YSAU).

The SWARM Summit, themed “The Future is Now: Emerging Trends Shaping Startup Ecosystems,” highlighted the young and innovative minds of Uganda and aimed to foster innovation, collaboration and growth in the Ugandan startup community. The program included keynote speeches from industry leaders on the current state and future direction of the startup ecosystem and engaging panel discussions. YSA Uganda graduates from previous cohorts were invited as panels to share their entrepreneurial experience and inspire their students.

This year’s graduation of YSA Uganda’s third cohort represents diverse industries and the potential to revolutionize Uganda’s business landscape. The startups have undergone intensive boot camps, providing the skills and resources needed to launch and grow successful companies and seek potential investments.

Emphasizing the importance of youth-driven innovation, the Korean Embassy in Uganda encouraged YSA alumni entrepreneurs to pursue their goals. Phyllis Kyomuhendo, founder of M-SCAN, said YSA was different from other projects because it was directly linked to commercial partners.

The Youth Start Academy Uganda is a project funded by the Korea SME and Startup Agency (KOSME) under its Korea Ministry of SME and Startup and implemented by the International Trade Center (ITC), a United Nations agency, and Hive Colab in association with National Information Technology Authority (NITA-U).

YSAU empowers young aspiring entrepreneurs by fostering a thriving startup ecosystem in Uganda. The current group of graduates represents more than 700 young entrepreneurs who have been trained to drive innovation and job creation across the country.
